Search for a Stable Six-Quark State at BABAR

2019

Recent investigations have suggested that the six-quark combination uuddss could be a deeply bound state (S) that has eluded detection so far, and a potential dark matter candidate. We report the first search for a stable, doubly strange six-quark state in Upsilon -> S anti-Lambda anti-Lambda decays based on a sample of 90 million Upsilon(2S) and 110 million Upsilon(3S) decays collected by the BABAR experiment. No signal is observed, and 90% confidence level limits on the combined Upsilon(2S,3S) -> S anti-Lambda anti-Lambda branching fraction in the range (1.2-1.4)x10^-7 are derived for m_S < 2.05 GeV. These bounds set stringent limits on the existence of such exotic particles.

Tree invasions in Italian forests

2022

Many forest tree species have been moved outside their native range to provide goods and services elsewhere, but some of them have become invasive, causing negative impacts on biodiversity and human activities. The assessment and knowledge on the degree and scale to which forest ecosystems are invaded by non-native trees is of paramount importance for tailored policies and strategies aiming at forest conservation. By analyzing main databases and literature and applying a four-level scale of invasion (not currently invaded and with low invasibility; potentially invasible; moderately invaded; massively invaded), we assessed the current and potential occurrence of twenty-five invasive non-nati…

I rimboschimenti di cedro dell’Atlante [Cedrus atlantica (Endl.) Manetti ex Carrière] in Sicilia

2012

ALLERGENS IN THE PARK AND GARDEN FLORA OF SICILY

2017

The ornamental flora of parks and gardens, as we know, generally includes high proportions of exotics. In Italy it arose from Renaissance on and increasingly enriched up to include a large proportion of exotics native to countries under Mediterranean and temperate climates. Similarly the garden flora of Sicily has a large number of mostly Mediterranean and subtropical exotics. Even if very similar on the whole, these floras differ in some floristic, biological and ecological features. Indeed, several succulent families and genera that are rare or missing in Italy are frequent in Sicily, but plants from temperate regions are almost absent in the island. As regards the allergenic patterns ref…

First record in Algeria of two eulophid wasps: Closterocerus chamaeleon (Girault) and its host, the eucalyptus gall wasp Ophelimus maskelli (Asmead) …

2010

The endophagous parasitoid Closterocerus chamaeleon, released in Israel, Italy and Corsica, for classical biological control programs, and its host, the gall-maker Ophelimus maskelli, were recorded for the first time in Algeria, in a straight line 450 km far from the Sardinian release site and 700 km far from the closest Sicilian release site. Their presence is confirmed in Andalucia (Spain), about 2000 km far from release sites of Sicily and Campania. In about two years the parasitoid spread and was established in many Mediterranean countries.

Hall–Post inequalities: Review and application to molecules and tetraquarks

2019

A review is presented of the Hall–Post inequalities that give lower-bounds to the ground-state energy of quantum systems in terms of energies of smaller systems. New applications are given for systems experiencing both a static source and inner interactions, as well as for hydrogen-like molecules and for tetraquarks in some quark models. In the latter case, the Hall–Post inequalities constrain the possibility of deeply-bound exotic mesons below the threshold for dissociation into two quark–antiquark mesons. We also emphasize the usefulness of the Hall–Post bounds in terms of 3-body energies when some 2-body subsystems are ill defined or do not support any bound state.

PRESENZA IN SICILIA DI GLYCASPIS BRIMBLECOMBEI MOORE (Hemiptera Psyllidae) SU EUCALYPTUS CAMALDULENSIS DEHNH..

2011

On the presence in Sicily of Glycaspis brimblecombei Moore (Hemiptera Psyllidae) on Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh. Authors record the occurrence in Sicily of the red gum lerp psyllid, Glycaspis brimblecombei Moore (Hemiptera Psyllidae) attacking Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh. (Myrtaceae). This species, native to Australia, has been first reported for the Palaearctic Region in 2008, when it has been recorded from the Iberian Peninsula. In 2010 it has been found also in Italy. It seems very difficult to control this insect without the diffusion of its specific antagonist Psyllaephagus bliteus Riek (Hymenoptera Encyrtidae), which resulted very effective in its biological control in North Ame…

Les reboisements en cèdre de l’Atlas en Sicile

2013

Atlas cedar plantations in Sicily Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica) has been widely diffused in reforestation in Europe, particularly in France. In Italy, the Atlas cedar covers about 2600 ha. This paper examines 7 cedar plantations in Sicily, in the various typical condition of the island, evaluating their dendrometric characters in order to estimate productivity and growth capacity. The results show that this specie is both highly suitable for wood production, and has a landscape restoration role in difficult ecological conditions such as the Mediterranean mountain environment is. The stands production is comparable with the better results reported for the French plantations. Some cultivatio…

Morlacchismo, illirismo, involuzioni esotiche. L’immagine degli slavi del sud nel teatro e nella musica dell’Ottocento in Italia/Morlakizem, ilirizem…

2014

Alberto Fortis’ Viaggio in Dalmazia (Venice, 1774) described for the first time the Morlacks of the interior of Dalmatia as the true model of a primitive group, whose characteristics became an exotic source of inspiration for some Italian writers and ballet composers until 1830s. Contemporaneously, the Homer’s paradigm was introduced by Melchiorre Cesarotti in the foreword joined to the Italian version of the poems of “Ossian” (1763), and it was in turn transformed by the composer and doctor of Split Giulio Bajamonti. Even though published in Italian, Bajamonti’s Morlacchismo d’Omero (Venice, 1797) can be considered the first contribution to the romantic Croatian literature. The essay of Ba…
